Leiblichkeit & Sexualität

Votivkirche, Vienna, Austria, 2014
Curated by David Rastas

The video on the small television screen featured a man approaching a gothic carving of Christ‘s crucified body as it lay on the floor of a French church. The unidentified man knelt down and proceeded to clean the entire sculpture with his tongue - licking away the dust of several hundred years. The artist was very concerned about the possibility of his identity being revealed and decided to remove the film on the opening night for the Leiblichkeit und Sexualität exhibition. In the absence of the work, attention shifted toward a reflection on the limits of public and private intimacy. The chapel had been left in the disorderly state which it was found, including a bag on the floor holding a bronze head of Christ that had been stolen and later returned.
