Leiblichkeit & Sexualität

Votivkirche, Vienna, Austria, 2014
Curated by David Rastas

Seventy-two LED lights are fixed with wire around the statue of the Sacred Heart in what appears to be an interrogation of the sculpture. Each of the lamps is pointed inward toward the figure and the light causes specific regions of the body to glow. The number seventy-two has both old and new testament significance. The number of elders annointed by the Lord to assist Moses was seventy-two and this was also the number of disciples that Jesus sent out in the Gospel of Luke. In the light of the significance of the number seventy-two, it could appear that each of the lamps in Wounded Light represent those appointed to bring people closer to God.
